NFP AWARENESS WEEK JULY 21-27, 2024

NFP Awareness Week, an annual educational campaign of the USCCB, invites everyone to learn more about God's wise design for sexuality and married love. The Natural Family Planning Office mails posters and other materials to parishes; additional copies are available upon request. Pastors and homilists: Click the following links for homily notes following the lectionary for July 21-27 and prayers of the faithful.

“LOVE BEYOND MEASURE.” The U.S. Bishops’ theme for Natural Family Planning Awareness Week 2024 highlights the uniqueness of married love. “Christian marriage,” writes Pope Francis, “as a reflection of the union between Christ and his Church, is fully realized in the union between a man and a woman who give themselves to each other in a free, faithful, and exclusive love, who belong to each other until death, and are open to the transmission of life…” (Amoris Laetitia 292). God has designed their mutual gift to be both life-giving AND love-giving. Alone among family planning methods, NFP honors this Divine design. Couples who live this truth can attest to its blessings in their marriages. To hear from some, go to www.rcdony.org/nfp. To learn more, please contact the diocesan NFP Office, apietropaoli@rcdony.org or at 518-483-0459.

SAVE THE DATE: NEXT FRIENDSHIP GROUP MEETING!: "Finding Peace in the Storm"

Our next Friendship Group meeting will be held on Thursday, June 13 at 7 p.m. Eastern Time via Zoom. We will be blessed to have Father Bill Neubecker, OMV talk with us about the first half of "Finding Peace in the Storm," by Dan Burke and answer your questions.

Sometimes discernment seems complicated, and we struggle to “be still” to listen to God’s voice. Following the death of his spiritual director, St. Alphonsus Liguori penned timeless advice in a letter to one of his spiritual daughters, and it became the famous work titled "Uniformity with God’s Will." Now Dan Burke breaks open St. Alphonsus’s eighteenth-century classic for you. He intersperses relevant explanations and insights within the text of this great saint and includes reflection questions for each chapter.

St. Alphonsus explains, “We should most confidently abandon ourselves to all the dispositions of divine providence, since they are for our own good.” In page after page, Burke shows you how the “wind and waves” can help you ascend to union with God. You will discover:

*The “paralyzing cocktail” we drink when we reject God’s will
*Three prayers that will assist you in directing all things to God’s will
*Two ways we can know God’s love and hear His voice
*How humiliation, adversity, and trials can bring freedom, healing, and salvation

A “What Next?” section helps you take practical steps in doing God’s will. Burke also provides a simple action plan to implement these fruitful practices in your life.

Liguori intersperses fascinating real-life examples from the saints to assist you in remaining steadfast amid afflictions. He explains three temptations that confront us and how to resist them, along with four practices of uniformity to God’s will and a surefire way to unite your sufferings to Christ’s sufferings.

You will acquire tips on what to do during periods of aridity or desolation. Above all, you will discover how to enjoy peace of heart in all circumstances and foster loving conversation with God. By learning how to entrust yourself fully to God’s holy will, you will experience His divine embrace and the fulfillment of your deepest desires.

To order the book, please visit sophiainstitute.com and enter Friendship25 at the checkout to receive a 25% off discount.

If you haven't signed up for the Friendship Groups, visit: https://mailchi.mp/sophiainstitute/friendship-groups

Once you have signed up, you will receive updates, including the Zoom link and discussion questions, about a week prior to the meeting.

FIRST SATURDAYS DEVOTIONS: Every First Saturday, 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. (next first Saturday, July 6)

(Please feel free to join us earlier, beginning at 8:30 a.m. for private prayers and recollection)
Our Lady of the Adirondack House of Prayer
7270 Star Road
Ellenburg Center
Call Sarah at 518-534-9976 for directions or more information.

What is First Saturday Devotion? First Saturday Devotions require a commitment to do the same requirements each time over five consecutive months as requested by our Blessed Mother at Fatima. The requirements for each of the First Saturdays selected are... To receive Holy Communion in a state of grace; To receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) preferably on that Saturday, but at least within eight days prior or eight days following the First Saturday indicating that it is being done as part of First Saturday Devotions for Reparation; To recite five decades of the Holy Rosary and meditate beyond the recitation for 15 minutes on one or all of the mysteries.

Why commit to this particular devotion? It is undertaken because the children who met with Mary at Fatima were instructed many times that this was important. It can be difficult, because it involves a sacrifice of time and possibly current priorities or even certain religious beliefs.

Why is this important? Mary indicated that she herself has been and is wounded and hurt by the indifference, insults, even blasphemy hurled at her, sometimes by those who believe they love her Son. She asks that those who wish to make this sacrifice do so with the specific stated intention of "making reparation for the sins committed against my Immaculate Heart."

Where can we join others to worship and make this reparation? Our Lady of the Adirondacks House of Prayer is, to the best of our knowledge, the only site in the North Country area which currently offers First Saturday Devotions with Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament. We invite you to join us on any First Saturday for this act of reparation in the warmth and love of this very special place of prayer and worship…and then return for the additional months! Mary promises that it makes a world of difference in our lives and in our world.
