NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING AWARENESS WEEK: Attention Pastors and Parish Secretaries

“Natural Family Planning. Love, Mercy, Life. Opening the Heart of Marriage” is the theme of this year’s NFP Awareness Week.  NFP Awareness Week is July 24-30.  A national campaign of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, this observance celebrates God’s design for married love and the gift of life while raising awareness of Natural Family Planning methods. The slogan for this year’s NFP Awareness Week was inspired by the Holy Father’s call for a Jubilee Year of Mercy, a special time of grace in the Church when all, including married couples and families, are invited to open their hearts more fully to the unconditional love, mercy and life which Christ and the Church offer us.

Posters and educational materials are being mailed to all parishes, and pastors are encouraged to assist by including bulletin announcements and intercessions to increase awareness; these are available on the Pastoral Documentation page. Bishop LaValley’s NFP Week letter will be sent directly to pastors, and may also be found in Pastoral Documentation or click the following links for NFP Awareness Week Intercessions and Bulletin Announcements (also reprinted below in the Notices for Bulletins section).

NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING AWARENESS WEEK: July 23-30, 2016

Below please find three options for NFP Awareness Week Bulletins for the bulletins of July 22/23 and 30/31)

Option 1:

Natural Family Planning is an effective, safe, and healthy way to achieve or to postpone pregnancy while respecting the design of the Creator.  In The Joy of Love (#222), Pope Francis wrote that natural methods “are to be promoted, since these methods respect the bodies of the spouses, encourage tenderness between them, and favor the education of an authentic freedom.” Couples who choose Natural Family Planning discover these benefits for themselves. To hear a personal account, go to www.rcdony.org/nfp and click on “One Couple’s Story.” To learn more about Natural Family Planning, contact Diocesan NFP Directors Angelo and Suzanne Pietropaoli at apietropaoli@rcdony.org, visit us at www.rcdony.org/nfp, or call 518-483-0459.

Option 2:

Why does the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops sponsor Natural Family Planning Awareness Week each July? Because, as St. John Paul II wrote, “Supported by science, experience has confirmed the educational value of Natural Family Planning in contributing to an integrated vision of sexuality, marriage, and responsible procreation.” Indeed, husbands and wives who choose NFP discover much more than a highly effective and healthy way to plan their families; they experience a way of living and loving that deepens their relationship to one another and to God. To hear a first-hand account, go to www.rcdony.org/nfp and click on “One Couple’s Story.” For further information, please contact Diocesan NFP Directors Angelo and Suzanne Pietropaoli at apietropaoli@rcdony.org, call us at 518-483-0459, or visit www.rcdony.org/nfp.

Option 3:

“Natural Family Planning is a unique form of fertility education. Specifically, NFP is the title for the moral, natural and healthy, modern and scientifically reliable methods of family planning. These methods teach married couples how to identify and understand their combined fertility. This information helps couples plan to achieve or to postpone a pregnancy. NFP is morally good because it helps married couples respect God’s design for married love” (Theresa Notare, PhD, Assistant Director, NFP Program,  United States Conference of Catholic Bishops). To hear firsthand what this means for marriage, go to www.rcdony.org/nfp and click on “One Couple’s Story.” For further information, please contact Diocesan NFP Directors Angelo and Suzanne Pietropaoli at apietropaoli@rcdony.org; call us at 518-483-0459; or visit www.rcdony.org/nfp.

NEW

(for the July 30/31 Bulletin)

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

Did you know that the average American lifestyle is kept afloat by 2,000 gallons of water per day. That is TWICE the global average. What’s your water footprint? You can calculate it at: http.//environment/nationalgeographic.com/environment/freshwater/change-thecourse/ water:footprint-calculator/ While enjoying the precious gifts of God this summer, consider how you might reduce your water use in the kitchen, in the bathroom, the yard. Simple practices can make a huge difference. EVERY DROP COUNTS!

NEW

(for the August 6/7 Bulletin)

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

Water is a precious gift of our Creator. Up to half of the water on Earth is likely older than our solar system itself, astronomers say, likely originating as ices that formed in interstellar space. Water is also a gift continually renewed by Earth: as it sinks into aquifers, flows over rocks in the sunlight, stands in wetlands, it is able to purify itself of contaminants – that is, if we don’t overload it! When water comes into your home as a guest - consider how you treat it…What went into the water? When it goes down the drain, where does it get purified? At the end of the day, take a focused moment to reflect on how water impacted your day and give thanks for this gift.
