At the end of 2013, Pope Francis called for a Year of Consecrated Life during the meeting with the Unions of Superiors General in order to reflect on the various forms of consecrated life. He spoke of how religious congregations enrich diocesan life. Here in our own diocese we are blessed by the presence of fourteen congregations of men and women religious.
The Year of Consecrated Life will start on November 30, 2014 and conclude on the World Day of Consecrated Life, February 2, 2016.
In the Diocese of Ogdensburg, we began the Celebration of the Year of Consecrated Life with the Jubilee for our Religious. Throughout the year, you can read profiles of the jubilarians in the North Country Catholic and we will collect their stories here. Throughout the year there will be opportunities to pray for - and with - our religious communities. Event information and resources for parishes will be posted on this site and shared through our social media, through parish bulletins and in the North Country Catholic.
The Year of Consecrated Life is also an opportunity to pray to God in thanksgiving for the women and men in our midst and to ask the Lord to call forth many young people consider a vocation to the consecrated life.
The Year of Consecrated Life opens in Rome this weekend on November 29 with the Opening Prayer Vigil led by Pope Francis. The Opening Prayer Vigil will take place in Rome at the Basilica of St. Mary Major at 7pm (3am Eastern Time). The Holy Father will also celebrate the Opening Mass on November 30 at 10am Rome Time (4pm Easter Time). It is anticipated that these celebrations will be televised on EWTN and Salt&LightTV. We invite you to join in prayer with the Universal Church by praying the Prayer for Year of Consecrated Life in your parishes and in your homes.
